Marex Video series

For Marex, we translated the language of financial services into motion design — a three-part series mixing bold data viz, sleek abstract shapes, and cinematic footage.

Financial firepower
Marex connects clients to markets, providing the liquidity, access, and infrastructure that make economies function and flourish. With more than 40 offices worldwide and over 2,000 people driving technology-powered services, they act as a bridge across energy, commodities, and financial markets: a true player in the fintech ecosystem. In this moment, Marex is in a unique position: demand in their market is growing, while competition is shrinking due to bureaucratic and economic hurdles. That means investors find Marex not only more accessible, but also better positioned for long-term growth. Our creative direction started with Marex’s visual identity. Footage was blended with a strong branding line to anchor the narrative and keep the story grounded. To avoid going “too abstract,” we alternated real footage with solid shapes, creating an expressive motion design language that shows both the human side and the conceptual one. The design system revolved around a key element in Marex’s brand identity — the MX Link. Built representing the four main services, its lines and dots became the foundation for a modular environment. From these elements, we developed a visual metaphor: lines connecting, expanding, and structuring space, symbolizing how Marex relates to the market and stands stronger against competition. A flexible grid ran through the series as an underlying system, guiding the motion of these lines while aligning footage, data-inspired visuals, and branded shapes into a coherent flow, producing a seamless branding animation. A layer of data visualization was added—not with real numbers, but in a stylized, abstract way that reinforced the idea of analysis, flow, and movement. By combining branding lines, footage, and modular shapes, the result was a motion language that feels precise yet dynamic—much like Marex itself. To better align this case study with the rest of our portfolio, Marex’s team kindly allowed us to reinterpret their original colour palette throughout all the visuals shared exclusively on illo’s portfolio channels.

To keep everything consistent, we relied on a modular grid: a hidden structure connecting footage, branded lines, and abstract shapes into one coherent flow.
