Coinshares Motion series

Transforming crypto complexity into visually engaging motion design—our series for CoinShares simplifies ETPs and blockchain with bold abstraction, dynamic grids, and procedural motion with Cavalry.

CoinShares, a leader in crypto ETPs, needed a motion series to explain complex financial topics into engaging, accessible content. Our challenge was to transform their in-depth blog articles into dynamic videos that educate both crypto enthusiasts and newcomers. We opted for a pure abstract style to visualize intangible financial concepts, exploring generative design and motion with Cavalry. The series follows a structured yet flexible design system, starting from CoinShares’ brand identity color palette, a consistent typographic approach, a well-defined grid, and a signature pixelated round-rect effect. We built a visual framework where information flows within a structured grid—mirroring the logic of crypto markets while allowing for dynamic storytelling. We went for a multi-technique approach blending motion graphics, Cavalry scenes, and some 3D-but-make-it-looks-like-2D visuals, creating a diverse yet cohesive visual language.

Metaphors played a key role throughout the whole series. For example, the color yellow consistently symbolizes crypto, acting as a visual shorthand for these topics. The concept of an investment portfolio isn’t just explained—it’s represented by nested squares containing smaller rectangles, evoking the idea of assets within a portfolio. Similarly, a basket filled with diverse forms visually represents an ETP portfolio, reinforcing the idea of variety and collective strength.

Every episode begins and ends with a signature motion sequence: the intro transitions from a solid background to the primary color of the first scene, while the outro distorts the grid—symbolizing the ever-changing market landscape. These subtle yet intentional elements ensure a seamless and recognizable viewing experience.

One of the recurring themes is organic movement—particle simulations subtly reference blockchain dynamics, while oscillating patterns hint at market volatility. These elements reinforce the narrative, making abstract financial principles more tangible. Cavalry’s parametric capabilities allowed us to generate seamless oscillations and modular animations, ensuring consistency across episodes.
